J.J. George is a UCLA graduate and Southern California native who calls movies “the family trade.” In the early 1970’s, while his father ran the Metro Color Laboratory at what is now Sony Studios, his uncle, Dan Carlin Sr., established La Da Music in his two-car garage. La Da and it’s later incarnate, Segue Music, would grow to be the most successful editing company in Hollywood and was responsible for nurturing and training many of today’s most accomplished music editors.
Starting his industry career at Segue in the late 1980’s, J.J. was soon earning credits on such high profile films as “Die Hard 2” and “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.” A 1994 Emmy nomination for his work on “Batman: The Animated Series” was followed by multiple Golden Reel nominations for his feature work. In 2008 he was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
A friendly disposition and an attention to the craft have made J.J. a strong competitor among top music editors. He joined forces with the other Mad 4 Music partners in 2003 in an effort to draw talented editors into a co-operative environment. The Mad 4 business model has proven to be a success as its elite group has flourished under the company banner.
In his free time J.J. enjoys weekend escapes with his wife and kids. He loves movies, music, his barbecue and the family cats.
